The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
