Automobiles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Officers reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative said the attack made him without words and required to be addressed quickly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
